Hi Matt!

My heart is touched with the joy of Akbar. I often take for granted what the Lord provided - his word, prayer, and freedom. He understands so much about true freedom and liberty in Christ.

Love In Christ!

Hi Matt,
I was moved by your post from Akbar. Do we know what a treasure we have that we can freely read the Scriptures any time we want? Do others fail to thank God for this incredible blessing as do I? Do others fail to seek God's word daily as often as I fail to do so? Isn't Satan sneaky to trick us into thinking that God's word will always be at hand?

These are questions that I need to answer for myself. I will keep Akbar in my prayers, and give thanks that his note reminded me of the treasure I have at my fingertips.

I believe that when we accept the Messiah as both our Savior and our Lord that we are adopted into God's family. We become a new nation. We are Jews (Matthew 12:50; Romans 9:6-8, 23-26; Galatians 3:6-7, 27-29; Ephesians 2:11-19; 3:4-6; Hebrews 2:14-16; Revelation 1:5-6 et al).

As adopted children we are thus interested in the culture and history of our adopted people and in light of that curiosity and love for our Father, we have begun observing some of the feasts that He instituted in the Old Covenant. We don't feel obligated to do so out of a need to gain salvation. In fact, we don't feel OBLIGATED to observe any of them for,
• Colossians 2:16-17 HCSB (16) Therefore don't let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a sabbath day. (17) These are a shadow of what was to come; the substance is the Messiah.

We don't observe any that are related to sin sacrifice, or that involve the Temple (which no longer exists). The other ones which focus on gratitude for the harvest or for the gift of God's Word or on repentance for our sin (i.e Yom Kipur) we do.

Pesach' (what most Gentiles refer to as Passover) is the center of our calendar. It is a springtime festival of commemorating Yahweh delivering both our ancestors and ourselves from bondage. It provides the religious foundation for the entire year and it is Pesach’ upon which all the other holidays are built.

For instance it is related to Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks in that Shavuot celebrates Yahweh giving us the Torah at Mount Sinai. The connection I am laboriously and long-windedly trying to make is that we are not merely freed FROM something but TO something. Freedom for us does not imply anarchism. We are freed in order to be able to obey Yahweh’s instructions.

May you have the hindsight to know where you've been,
The foresight to know where you are going,
And the insight to know when you have gone too far.

Thanks for sharing Akbar's message.

He understood this: "With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Psalm 119: 10 - 11 NKJV

He also, understands true freedom and independence in Jesus Christ.

Happy Independence Day to all my American friends.

Love In Christ!
